TripAdvisor Recognizes Merzouga as the 14th Best Nature Destination Globally
In a recent accolade for Morocco’s tourism, the renowned travel platform TripAdvisor has ranked Merzouga as the 14th best nature destination worldwide. Merzouga shares this prestigious list with iconic locations like Ha Long Bay in Vietnam and Mauritius.
Described as a place where visitors can “bask in glorious sunsets” and experience the charm of the desert, TripAdvisor recommends riding a camel across the windblown dunes of Erg Chebbi, an iconic landscape in Southeast Morocco. The website emphasizes that Merzouga provides a glimpse into desert life, and visitors can further enhance their experience with guided tours to nearby villages, promising African revelry, music, and dance.
This recognition follows Merzouga’s previous success in August 2023, where it secured the 3rd position on TimeOut magazine’s list of the best international tourism destinations. TimeOut praised the Erg Chebbi dunes, describing them as a “spectacular vision of shape-shifting golden sands” rising up to 300 meters tall and spanning over 28 km in the heart of the Sahara.
Moroccan cities have consistently made appearances in various categories of TripAdvisor’s annual rankings. Despite the challenges posed by the September earthquake, Morocco’s tourism sector demonstrated remarkable resilience, aiming to welcome a record-breaking 14 million visitors. As of November, tourism revenues reached $9.8 billion, marking a notable 15.8% year-on-year increase.
This recognition reaffirms Merzouga’s status as a global nature destination and underscores Morocco’s enduring appeal on the world tourism stage.
