Travel Enthusiasts, Rejoice! CNN Names Morocco Among Top 24 Destinations in 2024

In a recent feature on its “Travel” segment, CNN has spotlighted Morocco as one of the top 24 must-visit destinations for the upcoming year.

Standing proudly alongside other global hotspots such as Angola, Morocco is notably one of the few African countries securing a coveted spot on this prestigious list, alongside renowned destinations like Indonesia, South Korea, Singapore, Chile, Canada, and more.

CNN notes Morocco’s resilience and determination to rebound after a devastating earthquake in September of the previous year, showcasing its ability to overcome challenges and draw visitors with its diverse landscapes and spectacular architecture.

The media outlet encourages travelers to venture beyond the well-trodden paths and explore hidden gems within the Kingdom. Tetouan and Meknes, although less frequented, are highlighted as enchanting destinations that rival the popularity of cities like Marrakech, Rabat, and Fez.

The UNESCO-listed cities of Tetouan and Meknes are specifically recommended, acknowledging their cultural richness and historical significance. CNN showcases Morocco’s commitment to sustainable tourism, recognizing the country as a global leader in the field due to initiatives promoting renewable energy production and the presence of eco-friendly hotels.

As the world sees a remarkable 90% surge in tourist activity compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2023, CNN advises turning attention to places that are still largely undiscovered, charming during the off-season, or often overlooked compared to major cities.

Morocco’s eco-friendly accommodations, including the Berber-run Kasbah du Toubkal at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains, receive commendation. Essaouira, securing its place on Travel Lemming’s list of the “50 Top Travel Destinations for 2024,” further cements Morocco’s appeal.

The country’s tourism statistics reflect its growing popularity, with 13.2 million tourists visiting as of November 2023. Revenues from the tourism sector have experienced a substantial boost, rising from MAD 84.12 billion in November 2022 ($8.5 billion) to MAD 97.4 billion in November 2023.

Morocco’s unique blend of tradition and modernity, coupled with its commitment to sustainable tourism, positions it as a compelling and vibrant destination for global travelers in 2024.
